The Boxelder Bug
Latin name: Boisea trivittata (“tri” – three and “vittata” – banded)
Where does it live: North America in boxelder, maple and ash trees
Size: The adults will grow to about 12.5 millimeters
Color: They are primarily dark brown or black with red wing veins and markings on the bottom
Diet: The feed almost exclusively on the seeds of a Maple tree
Boxelder Bugs are considered more of a nuisance pest. They seek the warmth of your house in colder months. They aren’t known to cause serious damage to plants, although they may pierce through plant tissue during feeding.
